West Sumatra Earthquakes 2009

 

 We are still saddened by the 7.3 RS earthquake that struck West Java, Indonesia on September 2, 2009, and now we are shocked by another 7.6 earthquake that struck West Sumatra on September 30, 2009.

 

According to the U.N. Office of Coordination Affairs (OCHA), the earthquakes resulted in 529 deaths, although the figure is expected to increase significantly following assessments of affected areas.

Tasikmalaya (West Java, Indonesia) EARTHQUAKE

 

 

  • 7.3 RS earthquake struck at 14:55 on 2 September in Tasikmalaya District, West Java Province
  • 64 people killed, 37 are missing, and 27,630 are displaced in nine district in West Java and one in Central Java
  • 54,231 houses damaged in 12 district in West Java and one district in Central Java
